March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. This month is about educating and assessing the importance of colorectal cancer (CRC). Currently, colorectal cancer has started to impact younger adults. Colorectal cancer is the most common cancer-related death in people under 50. (ACS). It is important to stay informed about CRC and the lifestyle habits that can increase the risk of developing it.

Recently, The Center Clinic partnered with the Minnesota Clinical Cancer Trials Network. Together, we created educational classes regarding different cancers. These classes are in Spanish and help educate our Spanish-speaking community about cancers and clinical trials.

In June 2025, Dr. Maria Olave gave a presentation on Colorectal Cancer. Dr. Maria Olave spoke about the importance of diet, the current changes in the ages of people diagnosed with CRC cancer, and how CRC cancer impacts the Latino community. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in Hispanic men and women. 28% of Hispanic adults ages 16-84 are uninsured. Factors such as limited education and living in poverty are linked to higher cancer mortality rates because they hinder access to preventive care, early cancer detection, and treatment.
